Lift-Bit is a modular, digitally-reconfigurable furniture system that allows a sofa to seamlessly turn into a chair, a chaise lounge, a bed, a lounge room, and a myriad of other configurations.
The basic unit of Lift-Bit is a hexagonal stool with maximum and minimum heights respectively of 480 mm and 780 mm, and with a 450mm-diameter seat. Each element is motorized using a compact linear actuator with a rotary engine. Each stool can be lifted or lowered carrying up to 150 kilograms thanks to suitable reducing gears.
Each stool features a metal base structure, topped by a hexagonal cushion seat. The metal structure is made of 12 tubular legs, placed in couples, surrounding a metal cylinder which houses the mechanical system. The hexagonal seat is made by upholstered foam covered with fabric, fixed on a wooden structure.
The characteristic modularity of Lift-Bit allows each single unit to connect with other six stools, one of each side. Any unit can be matched with the adjacent ones regardless of the various angular positions or possible vertical axes. A magnetic, wireless system ensures the modules can be connected and are structurally stable.
Control can happen both remotely, through an app that suggests different configurations or invites you to make your own one, and in person, by simply hovering your hand in the air over the seats. Each stool can silently double or halve its height, permitting a high number of configurations and interior arrangements.
